Caroline is the founder and TwoBlackLabs’ Principal Consultant. Caroline is a Privacy and Security Risk professional with in excess of 10 years related experience in both the public and private sectors. She is currently the only IAPP qualified Fellow of Information Privacy in New Zealand.
Prior to TwoBlackLabs Caroline most recently worked for two of the big 4, Deloitte and KPMG, as well as private and public sector organisations.
Caroline specialises in providing both privacy and data protection consultancy. She is a leading expert in the European Union's General Data Protect Regulation (GDPR) and has IAPP qualifications relating to GDPR.
Caroline holds a 1st class honours, Batchelor’s degree in BSC Computer Software Theory from the University of Bath as well as IAPP’s Certified Privacy Professional Europe (CIPP/E), Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM) and Certified Information Privacy Technologist (CIPT) certifications. She is also a qualified PMI and Prince2 project manager. This allows her to not only provide advice on ‘what’ you should do but also ‘how’ you can go about implementing the recommendations in your organisation.
Originating from the UK, Caroline is an adopted Kiwi, having lived in New Zealand since 2004, is a New Zealand Citizen and holds Government clearance.
Outside of work Caroline is a keen equestrian having owned several clydesdale’s in the past, although the family restricts that past-time somewhat, both children wise and two black labradors of course…
Mark Carver Principal Consultant
Mark is TwoBlackLabs’ Principal Consultant specialising in privacy and cyber security architecture. He has 28+ years’ experience in the IT industry working within both public sector and private enterprise organisations in both New Zealand and the UK.
Marks specialises in enterprise and solutions architecture and design, security and privacy by design. His work also includes service and operational delivery design and managed services strategy and roadmap development.
Mark leverages emerging, disruptive technologies, in particular cloud based ‘as a service’ solutions to deliver customer business objectives and real outcome-based results. His experience and knowledge spans the range of IT, systems integration, cyber security, private and public cloud services, ‘Software as a Service’ and telecommunication industries.
Prior to TwoBlackLabs Mark most recently worked for leading New Zealand IT service providers and Telecommunication companies. Prior to moving to New Zealand, he ran two UK start-up businesses, both of which were successfully sold.
Originating from the UK, Mark is an adopted Kiwi, having lived in New Zealand since 2007, is a New Zealand Citizen and has previously held a Government clearance.
He is currently working towards Certified Information Privacy Technologist (CIPT) and TOGAF enterprise architecture certifications.

Jan Verberne Senior Consultant Jan is TwoBlackLabs' Senior Consultant specialising in privacy. He began his career at Bell Gully, working as a corporate lawyer in a team that specialised in mergers and acquisitions and capital markets transactions.
Jan then joined the Department of Internal Affairs as a Senior Privacy Advisor on a transformation programme that is reimagining DIA's identity and life event services. In that role, he completed privacy risk assessments over a range of processes and products, hosted privacy training workshops and provided pragmatic privacy advice to a range of stakeholders.
Jan has experience working with both businesses and government clients, providing him with an ability to balance commercial objectives and compliance obligations.
Jan has a strong understanding of privacy law and holds a first class honours degree in Law and a Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Economics.
Jan in currently working towards his IAPP Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM) and Certified Information Privacy Professional Europe (CIPP/E) accreditations
